As
many of you are aware, the server that processes the online license renewals has
been unavailable since Friday. After discussions with our IT staff, it appears
unlikely that the servers will become available prior to the June 30 expiration
date. As a result, all licensees with a June 30, 2009 expiration date who have
not yet renewed their license must submit a
paper renewal application. You must download the paper application from the
Boards website and it must be postmarked by June 30. Please be aware that
the Board does not accept cash or personal checks. Please submit a money order,
cashier's check, or business check made payable to "Ohio Treasurer Kevin
L. Boyce" in the exact amount needed for your renewal.
As
a standard process, anyone whose license is not renewed by June 30, even if they
meet the June 30 postmark deadline, must stop working until the Board processes
the renewal application. Due to the malfunction with the online renewal system,
the Board will temporarily suspend this policy. To give staff time to process
approximately 800 renewal applications that have not yet been submitted, the Board
will give you until close of business on Tuesday, July 7 to have your renewals
processed before you must cease practicing.
If
you do not have your renewal postmarked by June 30 and work on or after July 1,
you will be practicing occupational therapy without a license. If your renewal
is postmarked by June 30, you may legally practice until July 7.
Please
note, however, that your employer may not allow you to practice until the Board
processes your application and your public verification indicates that you license
is valid through 2010 (for OTAs) or 2011 (for OTs). For the next week, processing
renewal applications will be the priority task for the Boards licensing
staff. We typically receive the mail around 11 am. Once the mail arrives each
day, the first task will be to process the renewal applications. Once a renewal
is processed, the online verification status is automatically updated. To allow
time for staff to process your renewal, please do not call to determine if your
renewal has been processed. Please use the online system. If the licensing staff
is answering numerous phone calls, they will be unable to actually process your
renewal application.
Thanks
for your patience.
